Efficacious Body Worn Video Cameras Received Acclaims of FEHD

On-site situations can be recorded by body worn video cameras, which greatly reduce confrontation when frontline officers are carrying out their duties.

The EMSD introduced body worn video cameras (BWVCs) for the Hawker Control Teams of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) to enable the district frontline officers to record on-site situations when necessary while performing their duties. We co-ordinated and implemented the project, including conducting market research, identifying suitable technologies and devices, in just seven months. During the process, the team paid attention to understanding the specific needs of our clients and closely monitored the work progress. Eventually, we installed evidence management systems for 25 offices of the Hawker Control Teams and provided over 900 sets of BWVCs for the frontline officers.

Having been deployed by the FEHD for more than a year, the BWVCs yield notable results. According to the assessment of the FEHD in December 2023, over 80% of confrontations were effectively mitigated with the use of BWVCs. Being effective in use, the BWVC technology can be widely applied to other law enforcement departments for different types of work.
